The Northumberland County Career and Technology Center Announces Adult Education Evening Courses for the Spring, 2012 Semester. NCCTC, located at 1700 West Montgomery Street, Coal Township is offering the following to adults for the upcoming Spring, 2012 Semester. Classes begin the week of February 12, 2012. Classes begin the Week of February 20, 2012 "Registration time frame begins Monday, January 17th through February 10th. Please click here for registration form. This class aids students in mastering the language of medicine. Students learn the various elements known as word parts that make up the medical terms. Each lesson acquaints students with the terms related to each body system as well as the abbreviations utilized in the medical language.This course teaches medical terminology from an anatomical approach. Root terms are divided by each body system. The origin, a combined form, and an example of non-medical everyday usage is provided for each root term. Word Associations are provided as a learning tool. Unusual and interesting information is provided in regards to each term. Root terms are combined with prefixes and suffixes as your learning will culminate in the interpretation of several paragraphs of medical notes. The class consists of theory, demonstration and hands-on activities. This course is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge required to begin mastering blueprint reading, as it relates to construction. Wednesdays 6:00pm - 9:00pm / 10 weeks (30 hours) / $180.00 If you are looking for a job, career change, or interested in “fine tuning” your job readiness skills, this course might be for you. This course will focus on resume’ development, interview techniques, job search recommendations and more to assist people in the employment market. Thursdays 6:00 pm-9:00 pm / Three (3) Weeks (nine hours) / $55.00 Electrical Home System and Integration Installation (SuiteLink) Participants will learn how to plan, wire, terminate, install, connect, test, and troubleshoot the core systems of today’s Digitally Integrated Home Network. The SuiteLink Home Systems Installation and Integration Trainer is a complete turnkey classroom training system designed to give students a complete knowledge and hands-on educational package in a realistic work environment. It will cover common phrases, instruction sufficient enough to convey a message, be understood, and comprehend the response, i.e. participate in a brief conversation. 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm / 10 Weeks (30 Hours) / $180.00 If you want to learn about personal computers, this course is for you! This course provides hands-on experience and guides you through the basics of computer use. You will explore the Microsoft Windowing operating system and a variety of software applications. Zumba is a dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez in Columbia during the 1990's. The program combines Latin and international music with dance in an effort to make exercise fun. Introduction to Air Conditioning A Course of instruction that deals with basic electrical knowledge and experiments as applied to heating and refrigeration. First, you'll learn about the capabilities of the World Wide Web and the fundamentals of web design. Then, with your instructor's patient guidance, you'll plan the content, structure and layout of your Web site, create pages full of neatly formatted text, build links between the pages and to the outside world, and add color, backgrounds, graphics, and tables. You'll also learn critical and timely information of securing the best possible location in search engine listings, and powerful no-cost or low-cost web marketing strategies. The greenhouse is connected to the NCCTC as a result of the visionary efforts by the leadership of the Northumberland County Area on Aging and numerous other partners. Participants will be given an opportunity to learn techniques of growing vegetables in a greenhouse, as well as many helpful hints to prepare for their home planting and gardening season. The class will formally meet on six separate three hour sessions over a 10 week period. You'll study basic word processing and spreadsheet terminology, discover the fastest and easiest ways to create and edit documents, and learn functions through practical exercises. Topics include: orientation to the Word and Excel home screens; mouse skills and keyboard shortcuts; formatting and editing; inserting rows & columns; saving and printing; and how to get help fast when you need it.
