Carpentry

This course is intended for students who are interested in securing employment as carpenters in the construction field. The course is designed to produce quality students with training in all phases of the Building Construction Industry, such as residential structures, modular housing, commercial and industrial construction, residential renovation, and all components and their relationship to one another.
The course is intended to give the students an opportunity to:
(1) Develop the necessary manipulative skills required in the area of carpentry and building construction trades.
(2) Acquire the essential supplement information directly concerned with the carpentry trade so that they will be
able to exercise good judgment in carrying out all tasks involved in the Building Construction Industry.
(3) Develop an appreciation of quality work, safety, and correct work habits and attitudes.

Starting $15/hour up to $30/ and beyond
ACADEMIC/EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS:
Physical Skills: : Be able to life approximately 50 pounds and bend at the knees and waist without
difficulty. Must have a good sense of balance and no fear of heights. Possess good vision, speech, and fine motor skills, and have the ability to make precise measurements.
Math Skills: Convert and perform practical applications involving fractions and decimals, percentages, measurement, ratio, and proportion. Applied math, algebra 1, geometry recommended.
Language/English Skills: Read a variety of magazines, newspapers, trade-related manuals, and safety rules. Basic computer skills required for information retrieval, construction drawing, and estimating.
Computer Skills: Be able to use the computer to perform basic data processing, spread sheet, Internet for research and operate trade related software at the application level.

Degree program in Building Construction Technology, Construction Carpentry, Construction Management, four-year apprenticeship program.
