Computer Technology

The Computer Technology program provides students the training they need to succeed in various areas. Instruction is provided in computer servicing and maintenance, basic networking, web development, and digital forensics. Additional topics include digital video and photo editing, productivity software applications using Microsoft Office, and a Structured Cabling course in cooperation with Electrical Construction among other areas of study. Students enrolled in the Computer Technology program can put these skills to use in the workplace with professional certifications or in the pursuit of higher education.

Average Salary
Entry level is $14 - $16/hour. Higher salaries are available depending on position and post-secondary education, as well as any professional certifications held.
ACADEMIC/EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS:
Physical Skills: Good hand/eye coordination and finger dexterity; demonstration of steadiness and ability to concentrate on detailed work for long periods of time; knowledge of the keyboard and ability to type 30+ words per minute, is preferred, but not required, for entry into the program.
Math Skills: Students need a firm basis in basic algebra to be successful in this course. Students planning on a post-secondary education will be well advised to successfully complete higher-level math courses, such as algebra II and accounting.
Language/English Skills: Read trade journals, technical manuals, newspapers, periodicals, dictionaries and encyclopedias. Prepare summaries and reports using prescribed format. Ability to keep both written and digital records. Speak clearly and easily with clients.
Science Skills: No specific scientific requirements. Students should consider taking physical science, principles of technology, and/or physics.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to be precise and well organized; clear oral and written communication skills; good people skills.
RELATED POST-SECONDARY OPPORTUNITIES:
Two and four-year degrees available in Computer Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Forensics, and Networking. In addition, there are other courses in post-secondary education that utilize skills learned.
